Immunization Requirements

It is required by the State of North Carolina that all schools have an individual record of the following vaccinations. Henderson Collegiate must have a copy of the following information in order to enroll your child.

If your child’s cumulative file from their last school does not have the required paperwork we may request that you produce records from your child’s primary physician.

Kindergarten

Vaccination requirements for children entering Kindergarten are listed below:

Title I: Parent & Family Engagement Policy

Background

Section 1116 of the Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires the involvement of parents, families, and key community members of participating children in the design and implementation of Title I projects. A local educational agency (LEA) may receive funds under this part only if such agency implements programs, activities, and procedures for the involvement of these stakeholders in programs assisted under this part consistent with this section. Such programs, activities, and procedures shall be planned and implemented with meaningful consultation with parents and guardians, extended family members, and community members of participating children.

Purpose

Decades of research has shown that when schools work together with families to support learning, children are inclined to succeed not just in school but throughout life. Henderson Collegiate, Inc. believes that learning can best take place when there is shared effort, interest, and commitment among students, parents, extended family members, community members, and staff.

The goal of this Parent and Family Engagement Plan is to support in a more consistent and effective manner those things already in practice, as well as to generate new ways of strengthening the partnership between school and home

AHERA Regulatory Notice

NOTICE REGARDING AHERA REGULATIONS

TO: ALL HENDERSON COLLEGIATE FAMILIES AND STAFF

RE: REQUIRED ANNUAL AHERA NOTIFICATIONS

DATE: AUGUST 2024

The US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requires all schools to inspect building materials for the presence of asbestos. AHERA excludes schools from the inspection requirement if the school was constructed after October 12, 1988, and has a signed statement from the architect or project engineer responsible for constructing the school stating that no asbestos-containing materials were specified for use in the construction/manufacturing of the school. Our school has been provided such a statement, and is, therefore, exempt from the requirement to conduct an asbestos inspection. The EPA requires us to annually notify you that we are aware of the AHERA regulation, and that we are compliant. The Management Plan is available for your review at any time during normal school hours. The AHERA LEA Designee, Rick Wesley, is also available to answer any questions you may have about asbestos in buildings, during normal school hours or by email at rwesley@hendersoncollegiate.org.

Parents Bill of Rights

Henderson Collegiate (the School) believes that parent and family involvement must be aggressively pursued and supported by our communities, in homes, schools/colleges/universities, neighborhoods, businesses, faith congregations, organizations, and government entities by working together in a mutually collaborative effort. As such, the Board is committed to developing policies to involve parents in schools and their child’s education effectively. N.C.G.S. § 115C-76.20(b)(3).

All parents/families and educators must prioritize family involvement in education; thus, the Board commits to providing support and coordination for school staff and parents to implement and sustain appropriate parent involvement.

Improved student achievement must be the equally shared responsibility and the goal of parents, teachers, the school system, and the community. Thus, the Board commits to seeing that each school has effective volunteer programs to address student needs and commits to utilizing schools to assist students and families in connecting with community resources.

The Board commits that it will impact student achievement significantly by improving the quality and quantity of parent/family involvement. Consequently, the Board will provide guidance, support, cooperation, and the necessary funding to enable parents to become active partners in education.

Parent’s Guide to Student Achievement (PGSA)

It is Henderson Collegiate’s goal to offer parents and guardians access to information regarding student achievement via this Parent’s Guide to Student Achievement (PGSA). Should you wish to obtain paper copies of this document and its contents, you can make a request through your child’s respective school.
