To enroll in Kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year, children must turn 5 years old on or before August 31, 2025.

Kindergarten offers the greatest number of openings at Henderson Collegiate because it is the grade where our school journey begins. As students advance through the grades with us, openings in other grade levels become more limited.

We encourage all families to apply, as we value every opportunity to welcome new students into the Henderson Collegiate family.

Once a student is accepted through our lottery process, they are automatically part of the Henderson Collegiate family. To ensure each student is set up for success, we review their academic records, including report cards and test scores, to determine the best grade level placement.

Given the rigorous academic expectations at our school, students may be recommended for a grade level different from the one they initially applied for. This ensures they have the necessary foundation to thrive academically and build their skills without falling behind.

For applicants entering grades 1 through 3, a placement test is required to help us accurately assess their academic level and place them in the grade that will best support their growth and success.

Students do not need to complete any tests to be accepted into Henderson Collegiate. Admission is determined solely through our lottery process.

After acceptance, we review students' End-of-Grade (EOG) scores, and most students will take an additional skills-based assessment. This assessment helps us understand their current academic level and ensures they are placed in the grade where they will be most successful.

Regardless of the test results, all students are 100% accepted into our school and are fully welcomed into the Henderson Collegiate family.

Students who are accepted through the lottery are automatically welcomed into Henderson Collegiate, regardless of test scores.

After acceptance, prior test scores are reviewed as one of several factors to help us determine the grade level that will best support the student's academic success. This process ensures each student is placed where they can thrive and grow.

While grading practices may vary between schools, the standardized tests we review provide consistent and comparable scores for all students.

For twins, please complete a separate application for each child and indicate on both applications that they are twins.

According to state law, during the lottery, one number will be entered for both children. If that number is selected, both twins will be accepted into Henderson Collegiate together.

Yes, any student residing in the state of North Carolina is eligible to apply to Henderson Collegiate.

All applications submitted by the deadline are automatically entered into the lottery. The number of new students admitted each year is determined by the number of available openings at each grade level.

During the lottery, each applicant is assigned a number, and a random number generator is used to determine the order of admission. If the number of applicants exceeds the available openings for a particular grade, students will be admitted based on the lottery results, and the remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

The waitlist includes all applications that were not accepted through the lottery process or were submitted after the enrollment deadline.

• Lottery Applicants: Applications that went through the lottery but were not accepted due to limited openings are added to the top of the waitlist in the order determined by the lottery.
• Late Applicants: Applications submitted after the enrollment deadline are added to the bottom of the waitlist in the order they are received.

If openings become available—for example, due to applicants declining their spot or current students relocating—students on the waitlist are offered admission based on their position on the list.

We wish we could welcome every student into Henderson Collegiate, but the number of spots available each year is limited. However, we encourage families to stay in close contact with us. The pace at which the waiting list moves can vary from year to year, and there is always hope for movement.

Important: We strongly encourage families to keep their applications active, even if only one sibling was accepted. Every opportunity matters, and we are here to support you throughout the process.

If an application is submitted after the enrollment deadline and there are more applicants than available openings for that grade level, the applicant is automatically added to the waitlist in the order the application is received.

However, if an application is submitted after the deadline for a grade level with more openings than applicants, the application will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yes, you will need to submit applications for any additional children.

If your current student has been enrolled at Henderson Collegiate for a full year, their siblings will be given higher priority in the lottery process. However, admission is still subject to the number of openings available for each grade level.

The lottery priorities, as outlined in our charter, are ranked as follows:

• Henderson Collegiate Full-Time Employees
• Siblings of Current Students

For twins, while they are not given priority, if one twin is accepted, both will be admitted.

• Does a step-sibling count? Yes.
• Does a half-sibling count? Yes.
• Does the sibling need to have the same last name? No.
• Does the sibling need to live in the same household? No.
• Can there be an alternative definition of sibling (e.g., cousin, friend, nephew, etc.)? No.

Only siblings who meet the standard definitions of step-sibling or half-sibling are eligible for sibling priority.

Unfortunately, priority cannot be adjusted once the lottery process begins. All applicants, including those with potential priority designations, must adhere to the set lottery procedures. Once the lottery takes place, the process is finalized and cannot be modified.

Applicants will indicate priority categories, such as sibling, full-time employee, or twins, through the SchoolMint application system. The Operations team will review and verify all priority preferences to ensure accuracy.

Before the lottery, SchoolMint automatically generates priorities based on the information provided, ensuring a fair and organized process.

Any child who is not admitted through the lottery will be added to the waitlist.

If your child remains on the waitlist and does not gain admission for the current school year, you will need to submit a new application for the following year. Once a child accepted through the lottery attends Henderson Collegiate for a full school year, all siblings who apply for the next school year will receive a higher priority on the waitlist if they are not accepted through the lottery.

Once your student is accepted to Henderson Collegiate, there is no need to re-apply in future years—they will remain enrolled.

However, if your student is not accepted through the lottery and is placed on the waitlist, you will need to re-apply each year to participate in the new lottery process. Waitlists do not carry over to the next enrollment season.

Because End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) tests vary by state, we require students transferring from schools outside of North Carolina to complete a pretest to determine the best grade placement and set them up for success. Regardless of test performance, all accepted students are fully part of the Henderson Collegiate family.

• Grades K, 1st - 9th: All out-of-state applicants are required to complete a placement test.
• Grades 10th & 11th: Placement is determined through a review of transcripts and previously completed coursework.

• Locate the Student's Application:

  • Go to the Application Index in SchoolMint.
  • Search for the student's name under School -> Grade Level.

• If the Application is Not Found:

  • Use the General Search button in SchoolMint.
  • SchoolMint will indicate if an account has been created but no official application has been submitted.

Important: Account creation alone does not count as an application. Only fully submitted applications are valid for review.
